POKEMON REMEMBRANCE CHAPTER ONE - WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

'I always remember the day my family and I moved away from Goldenrod City, to our new home in the Hoenn Region. My father Norman, wasn’t originally from Johto, he was from Petalburg City in Hoenn. He originally came over to Johto on a backpacking expedition, to see the many sights that the region had to offer, my mum who actually was from Goldenrod, was also part of that expedition. They fell in love and my father decided to stay, much to my Grandfathers detest.

My grandfather who I had never met, was the gym leader of Petalburg City. He constantly told my father that he would be taking over the Gym once he returned from Johto, but my dad ended up staying, and they never spoke after that. Instead, my father opened a gym in Goldenrod City, using Normal type Pokemon, he used a mix of the native Johto Pokemon and one or two he kept from Hoenn. It wasn’t long after that, that they had me.

I lived a great life in Goldenrod City, the Pokemon School I attended taught you so much and we took fieldtrips all over the region, sometimes even going across to Kanto. I loved it, and it made me ambitious to travel around the region and collect all 8 Johto gym badges to participate in the Silver Conference. I spent days and hours debating with myself which of the three Pokemon I wanted to choose as my first Pokemon, making pros and cons about all of them. Ultimately, after professor Elm gave a talk at my school, I decided on Totodile. It escaped out into the city, and I was lucky enough to find it, and I really got firsthand experience on what it was like to be a trainer. Unfortunately this Totodile was one that was that was going to a trainer already, along with the Chikorita and Cyndaquil Professor Elm already had.

That night I was so excited, I was only 5 days away from turning 11 and able to go pick up my Totodile, and start my adventure. Everything changed in an instant; my father sat me down and told me that we were moving back to Hoenn. He explained that my grandfather had passed away, and that he had to take control of the gym in Petalburg City or it would be closed down. I couldn’t believe this, my dad hadn’t spoken to his own father in all the time he moved to Johto, but he was happily just going to move us on to a new region, without a thought for myself or my mother. I kicked up a fuss about it, telling him ‘I’m about to turn 11 and get my first Pokemon, from Professor Elm!’, he didn’t seem to care though. He had already made arrangements to move to Hoenn, and the worst part is that my mum and I, wouldn’t even be living at the gym! He was forcing us to go, and I didn’t want to. My mum and dad got into big arguments about it, but it didn’t matter, we were moving in five days.

The day after, Dad stepped down as the Goldenrod Gym Leader, leaving some girl named Witney in charge. Then both my parents flew out to Hoenn, to attend my Grandfathers funeral, and for my father to make arrangements for his new role as the Petalburg Gym leader, while my mum went to see our new house in Littleroot town. Leaving me in Goldenrod for four days on my own, I just reflected on everything that happened and I cried, knowing that I was leaving my home.

Four days passed in an instant, and moving began. My dad had made arrangements for a Machoke moving company, to come and pack up our house and load it into the back of a truck. Room by room they placed most of our belongings in cardboard boxes and moved them into the truck. I hated seeing my house so bare, it just didn’t feel right. Before I knew it, they were all set and ready to go, I didn’t even get to say goodbye to my friends. What was worse was that from Goldenrod to Olivine City, than once I got to Hoenn, I had had to sit in the back of the moving truck! Thankfully there was a ferry from Olivine, but I was on my own with the moving people and their Machoke.

It was a long drive from Goldenrod to Olivine City, especially when I was making sure the boxes didn’t fall, thankfully they didn’t but it was still hard to keep them up. Eventually after what felt like an eternity, we arrived in Olivine and boarded the ferry that would take me to Hoenn. As we pulled away from port, I stood out on the deck and got one last look at Johto, before it disappeared into the horizon. Seeing all the water Pokemon leaping out of the water as we crashed through the waves, and feeling the ocean breeze was incredible, but inside I still felt sad. Sad that I was leaving my home, and sad that I couldn’t start my Pokemon journey with the Totodile that I wanted to be my first Pokemon.

About two hours into the seven hour Ferry journey, I decided to just go sit inside. I was alone and depressed, I saw families excited, who were going on vacation there, talking about Pokemon they hoped they would see. Not knowing any of them, I was intrigued by what they were saying, but I couldn’t really make out what their names were. I sat in there just listening and watching people go by, some with Pokemon from the Johto and Kanto regions, all of them heading to Hoenn, to either start a new journey, or go on vacation. From what I understood, Hoenn was of a tropical climate, compared to the the cooler mountainous Johto. A lot of exotic Pokemon lived out there on the Islands. After we pulled into port, and I got back into the truck, I realised they were right! I remember feeling the humidity from the back of the truck, it was intense, with very little air comping through the vents. I never got a chance to see any of Hoenn on my way to Littleroot, I just heard the roaring of the engine and the vibrations from the road. I just wanted to get there and rest.

I don’t remember how long it took to get from the port town to Littleroot, but I remember falling asleep part way through the journey. I was awoken by a Machoke shaking me awake, making me realise we had finally arrived. I stepped out into the town that I would call my home, seeing Littleroot and Hoenn for the first time. It was a forested paradise, with trees surrounding the whole of the little town, there didn’t seem to be many people, maybe a population of 100 total, I turned to see our house and it was pretty impressive. We had a huge front and back garden, with plenty of flowers and shrubs. I walked in and saw my mum, who had already started unloading the boxes. She was excited to see me, and I told her how my journey was. She said she was going to make dinner, and I could go and see my room. I headed up the stairs, exhausted from my travels and saw my room for the first time, it was huge! There wasn’t a lot in there right now but there was a bed, a computer desk and a clock on the wall, which was set to the wrong time. I set it, and just went to lay on my bed and passed out for the rest of the day...'
